AutoStack Industrie

Dana’s metallic bipolar plate is market-ready and suitable for commercial use. This is the key finding of the final report from the “AutoStack Industrie” (ASI) project , published in 2024. Founding members of the ASI initiative included Dana and several leading companies from the German automotive and supplier industry, such as Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, and Volkswagen.

The goal of this initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, was “...the joint development of a high-performance stack technology for automotive applications that meets the functional, quality, and cost targets of the automotive industry in industrial-scale production of stacks and components.” In short: to prove that the technology is ready for commercial deployment.

The result is a complete success. Dana’s metallic bipolar plates already achieve competitive production costs at the projected volumes. The component design offers ideal conditions for commercial utilization.

Particularly promising applications include delivery vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and forklifts.
